Ms. Nazma Samir Ansari, Kidney Transplant on September 05, 2024
On July 23, 2024, MOHAN Foundation's 'Anudaan - Making Transplants Affordable' team received an email from Wockhardt Hospital, Mumbai requesting financial aid for Ms. Nazma Samir Ansari, hailing from Mumbai, Maharashtra. She was diagnosed with End- stage renal disease (ESRD) and was on maintenance haemodialysis and required an immediate kidney transplant.
Nazma, aged 38 years, belongs to poor family in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Her husband works as a office helper earning a meagre income of INR 9,500 per month and is the sole breadwinner in the family. The family had no means to bear the huge cost of transplant. This is when Mr. Samir (Nazma's husband) came across MOHAN Foundation and reached out to the doctors of Wockhardt Hospital to help the family to avail the financial aid. With the support from MOHAN Foundation, few other NGOs and the hospital's concession on transplant cost, Nazma successfully underwent a Kidney transplant on September 05, 2024. Anudaan sanctioned Rs 1 lakh towards her surgery.
During her 8th month of pregnancy, there was a rise in her blood pressure, causing renal damage. She was put on medication, but her health deteriorated in 2023, when her creatine level reached 16. The physicians suggested her to start dialysis as a temporary measure. Later, a kidney transplant was recommended. Nazma’s mother turned out to be a suitable donor.
"We had no way to plan for her transplant surgery, and we were already deep in debt after borrowing money to start her treatment. That’s when we came across MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan initiative, which gave us hope that we could afford the transplant. My family and I are beyond grateful to your organization, and words can't fully express our thanks." -Mr. Samir Ansari
