About Anudaan
Every year in India, many patients receive a second chance at life through organ transplantation. Yet for a large number of families, the biggest obstacle is not finding a donor — it is affording the transplant. With most procedures performed in private hospitals and costing several lakhs of rupees, medically eligible patients are frequently forced to delay or abandon treatment.
Access to transplantation should depend on medical need, not financial ability. Anudaan – Making Transplants Affordable is a compassionate support initiative of MOHAN Foundation created to bridge this gap and improve equity in access to life-saving transplantation.
The word Anudaan comes from Sanskrit — Anu meaning small or in support, and Daan meaning giving — reflecting the belief that many small contributions can come together to save a life.
Through philanthropic donations, CSR partnerships and community fundraising, Anudaan provides timely partial financial assistance, works with hospitals that subsidise treatment costs, and connects families to government schemes and other support organisations. By stepping in at the most critical moment, the programme helps economically vulnerable patients — especially children and young adults — access life-saving transplantation and move forward toward healthy, hopeful and productive lives.
MOHAN Foundation is a national not-for-profit organisation established in 1997 that works to promote ethical deceased organ donation, build capacity among healthcare professionals, and improve access to organ transplantation across India.

Why Anudaan Exists?
MOHAN Foundation has long worked to promote ethical organ donation and improve access to transplantation across India. Although public hospitals provide free or subsidised care, only a limited number offer transplant services across the country. As a result, many patients from economically vulnerable backgrounds must seek treatment in private hospitals.
In private centres, transplant costs commonly range between ₹10–15 lakhs for kidney transplantation and ₹25–30 lakhs for liver and heart transplantation. For many families, the barrier was no longer medical readiness but financial readiness — even after a donor was available and doctors were prepared to proceed. Patients frequently delayed or abandoned life-saving treatment because funds could not be arranged in time.
The COVID-19 pandemic further worsened the situation. Several public hospitals were converted into dedicated COVID care facilities, temporarily suspending transplant programmes and leaving patients with no option but private care at substantially higher cost.
To address this critical gap, Anudaan – Making Transplants Affordable was launched in 2021 — enabling medically eligible patients to proceed to transplantation when time matters most.

How Anudaan Works?
Anudaan supports patients who need an organ transplant but cannot afford the cost. The process is simple, transparent and done in partnership with the treating hospital.
- 1
Get Referred Through the Hospital
Speak to your transplant coordinator, social worker or doctor and ask about applying for Anudaan.
The hospital will submit your application along with medical details, estimated transplant cost and basic financial documents at least 15 days before surgery.
- 2
Verification of Need
Your medical eligibility must be confirmed by the treating hospital. Your financial situation is reviewed using income documents, bank statements and related records to ensure the support reaches families who genuinely need it.
- 3
Approval of Support
Anudaan’s committee evaluates the application and decides the amount of partial financial assistance. Anudaan usually bridges the most critical funding gap rather than covering the entire transplant cost, so that more patients can be helped.
- 4
Combine Other Available Support
You may also be guided to use government schemes, hospital concessions, other charitable assistance or crowdfunding platform. Combining these sources makes the transplant affordable.
- 5
Payment Made Directly to the Hospital
After the transplant and final bill verification, the approved amount is transferred directly to the hospital. This ensures transparency and proper utilisation of funds.
- 6
After the Transplant
Recovery updates and discharge documents are collected. With your consent, your experience may be shared to inspire more people to support patients awaiting transplants.
Note: Anudaan provides partial financial assistance, so families may still need to combine support from government schemes, hospital concessions or other charitable sources.
What Anudaan Does Not Cover?
- Anudaan provides partial financial assistance.
- Approval depends on eligibility and available funds. Committee's decision is final.
- Support is routed only through partner hospitals.
- We cannot support emergency walk-in requests. All applications must be received atleast 15 days prior to transplant date.
