Ms. Minal Laxman Dhane, Kidney Transplant on November 18, 2023
On November 18, 2023, MOHAN Foundation's 'Anudaan - Making Transplants Affordable' team received an email from Jehangir Hospital, Pune requesting financial aid for Ms. Minal Laxman Dhane, hailing from Solapur, Maharashtra. She was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, stage 5 and was on maintenance hemodialysis and required an immediate kidney transplant. Minal belongs to a poor family and could not afford the cost of a transplant. Her son while finding organizations which supports transplants for poor patient came across MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan initiative and requested the hospital to help them in availing financial aid.
Minal, aged 44 years, belongs to poor family in Solapur, Maharashtra. Her husband is a daily wage labourer and is the sole breadwinner in the family. Both her sons are students.
Minal was diagnosed with Pneumonia in 2022 and was under medication for the same in Yashodhara Hospital, Solapur. Her health kept deteriorating and it was found that due to excessive intake of painkillers her kidneys had failed. She was started on dialysis. Eventually her blood count started deteriorating and doctors recommended kidney transplant as a life-saving option. Minal travelled to Jehangir Hospital in Pune for the transplant and her mother was found out to be a suitable donor.
The family had no means to bear the huge cost of transplant. This is when Mr. Akshay (Minal's son) came across MOHAN Foundation and reached out to the doctors of Jehangir Hospital to help the family to avail the financial aid. With the support from MOHAN Foundation, few other NGOs and the hospital's concession on transplant cost, Minal successfully underwent a Kidney transplant on November 30, 2023. Anudaan sanctioned Rs 1.5 lakh towards her surgery.
'Many thanks and heartfelt gratitude to MOHAN Foundation and the Anudaan team for saving my mother's life.' - Mr. Akshay Dhane(Son)
