Mr. Ravindra Suresh Chavan, Kidney Transplant on August 02, 2024
On July 23, 2024, MOHAN Foundation's 'Anudaan - Making Transplants Affordable' team received an email from Jupiter Life Line Hospital, Thane requesting financial aid for Mr. Ravindra Suresh Chavan, aged 44 years, hailing from Ambernath, Thane, Maharashtra. He was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, stage 5 and was on maintenance hemodialysis and required an immediate kidney transplant. Suresh belongs to a middle-class family and formerly worked as an accountant at a private form. As his health deteriorated, he was forced to resign from his job. As he was looking for organizations which financially supports transplants for poor patients, he came across MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan initiative and requested the hospital to assist him in availing the financial aid.
In April 2019, Ravindra’s blood pressure variants were unimaginably high. He underwent a few tests, which revealed fluctuations in kidney functioning tests. He was then, referred to a nephrologist at Jupiter Life Line Hospital, Thane where he received a startling diagnosis of a chronic kidney disease following a kidney biopsy. He was immediately started on a dialysis. With his kidney function plummeting to just 10%, doctors advocated for a life-saving kidney transplant. Few tests later, his mother was found out to be a suitable donor.
Ravindra was the family's sole breadwinner, and his unemployment made it difficult for him to meet household expenditures while also caring for his aging parents. He was somehow managing with his savings, but his regular trips to the hospital for dialysis had depleted all of his income. He found it difficult to raise the Rs. 6 lakhs required for the transplant surgery. This is when he learned about the MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan program and approached the doctors at Jupiter Life Line Hospital to assist the family in obtaining financial aid. With the support of the MOHAN Foundation and a few other NGOs, Ravinder successfully underwent a Kidney transplant on August 02, 2024. Anudaan sanctioned Rs 1 lakh towards his surgery.
“I was in no financial position to fully afford my transplant, but because of the support of Foundations like yours, I was able to successfully undergo the transplant surgery. I will certainly advocate the MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan program to any financially challenged patients who require life-saving transplants but find it difficult to raise the funds.” – Mr. Ravindra Suresh Chavan
