Mr. Monising Bungdon', Kidney Transplant on March 11, 2023
On March 11, 2023, MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan- "Making Transplants Affordable" team received an email from Shija Hospitals and Research Institute Pvt. Ltd, Imphal, Manipur, requesting financial aid for Mr. Monising Bungdon's kidney transplant. He was suffering with chronic kidney disease and needed an urgent transplantation.
Mr. Monising Bungdon, age 61, hails from Chandel, Manipur. He is a farmer, earning a meager income for his family. It was in any case difficult for him to take care of his family and to pay for his children's education. The additional expenditure on medicines and pre-transplant treatment was already taking its toll. He was finding it very hard to pay the huge cost of his kidney transplant, i.e., Rs. 6 lakhs.
At RIMS, after few tests, it was found out that his kidney was not functioning properly. Due to COVID 19 pandemic, no one was allowed to go outside the premises of Mr. Monising's residential area in his village.
Hence, the family couldn't visit hospital for further health checkup for almost six months due to which, Mr. Monising's health condition got worst, which led to chronic kidney disease, stage- V.
Because of his health condition, Mr. Monising had to stop working. He had to take rest and go for dialysis 3 times in a week. His children's education was stopped. They had to help their mother in cultivation in order to survive. For the family, Mr. Monising's health and his life, was the main concern, so they decided to get the kidney transplant done at any cost. The family later went to Shija Hospitals and Research Institute, Manipur for kidney transplant.
Mr. Monising's wife volunteered to donate one of her kidney but unfortunately, her blood sample was not matching with her husband. Now the question was that who will be the donor and how to deal with the financial issues?
The doctors and transplant coordinator at Shija hospitals informed the family about MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan. Later on, Mr. Monising's daughter made her mind to volunteer for donating her kidney to her father. As she was very dear to his father, he refused to receive her kidney and told the family that it was better to die. After repeated counselling, the family managed to convince Mr. Monising to receive her daughter's kidney. It was a difficult moment for the family. After few tests, it was confirmed that the daughter was a perfect match for her father.
Anudaan team also helped the hospital in connecting with other NGOs for some more financial support to be able to raise the full amount, which was needed for the kidney transplant. With the support from Anudaan, Chief Minister Health Fund & other NGOs, Mr. Monising successfully underwent a kidney trabsplant on 07-04-2023. Anudaan sanctioned Rs 50,000 for the transplant.
Both father and daughter are doing fine now and their lives are back to normal.
"I want to thank MOHAN Foundation for supporting my husband's kidney transplant. Without him, my life is nothing".'-Mrs. Lunching Sengul, wife.
