Mr. Mahadev Rajendra Gaikwad, Kidney Transplant on February 09, 2024
MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan - 'Making Transplants Affordable' team received an urgent email from Jehangir hospital, Pune requesting financial aid for an emergency kidney transplant for Mahadev Rajendra Gaikwad. Mahadev, aged 18, hailing from Bhondvewadi, Pune, Maharashtra. Mahadev was battling chronic kidney disease, necessitating an immediate intervention.
Mahadev's father works as a wage labourer and provides for the entire family. He was barely managing to cover the family's expenses when they learned about Mahadev's medical condition. The staggering amount of Rs. 8 lakh required for Mahadev's kidney transplant was extremely expensive. Mahadev had high temperature in October 2023. After being brought to a nearby clinic, he was given medicine though it only provided him with short-term respite.
Due to his persistent fever, he was taken to Jehangir Hospital in Pune. He was advised to get tested there and it was discovered that he had kidney disease. For four months, he underwent dialysis. He was then advised to have a kidney transplant as a life-saving measure as his condition deteriorated. Thankfully, Mahadev's mother turned out to be a matching donor.
The family could not afford the huge cost of the transplant. At this point, Jehangir Hospital's medical staff informed them about the MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan initiative. Mahadev received a successful kidney transplant on February 09, 2024, with the invaluable assistance of Anudaan and a few other charitable organizations. Anudaan approved Rs. 62,535 for the transplant.
“We were very concerned about how we were going to organize the transplantation cost. Anudaan appeared to us as an angel of protection. We were shielded from enormous debts from third parties.” - Mahadev Rajendra Gaikwad - Patient
