On February 23, 2023, MOHAN Foundation's ‘Anudaan- Making Transplants Affordable' team received an email from Jupiter Lifeline Hospital, Thane requesting financial aid for Mr. Jay Gulab Adhav, hailing from Vihasnagar, Thane, Maharashtra. He had been diagnosed with ischemic dam with heart failure and required an immediate heart transplant. Jay while finding organizations which supports transplants for poor patient came across MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan initiative and requested the hospital to help them in availing financial aid.
Jay, aged 22 years, belongs to Vihasnagar, Thane, Maharashtra. His father works as a tailor and is the only breadwinner of the family. It was very tough for them to pay the huge cost i.e., Rs. 22.5 Lakh for Jay's heart transplant. In November 2021 Jay had severe chest pain and felt uneasy.
He was taken to local hospital where he was diagnosed with a heart attack. He was under treatment for several months but, his condition kept deteriorating. He was later diagnosed with prolonged case of heart failure. Jay was then referred to Jupiter Lifeline Hospital, Thane for heart transplantation. He was then registered on the deceased donation waiting list.
The family had no means to bear the huge cost of transplant. This is when Mr. Jay came across MOHAN Foundation and reached out to the doctors of Jupiter Lifeline Hospital to help the family to avail the financial aid. With the support from MOHAN Foundation, few other NGOs and the hospital's concession on transplant cost, Jay successfully underwent a Heart transplant on January 23, 2024. Anudaan sanctioned Rs. 3 lakhs towards his surgery.
"MOHAN Foundation is doing an incredible job in saving lives of economically underprivileged patients. In addition to donating funds, the team also advocated on our behalf with the hospital management to reduce the surgery cost. I wish them all the best in their life saving work" - Mr. Gulab Adhav- Father
