Master Nimesh Nitnawre, Liver Transplant on January 16, 2024

On April 17, 2023, MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan Making Transplants Affordable' team received an email from Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital, Mumbai requesting financial aid for Master Nimesh Nitnawre’s liver Transplant, who was diagnosed with Autoimmune hepatitis related decompensated liver cirrhosis. He was in need of an urgent liver transplant.

Master Nimesh Nitnawre, age 7, hails from Nagpur, Maharashtra. His father works in a construction site as a daily wage labourer, earning a monthly meagre income. It was hard for him to run the family and at the same time, spend on medical expenses of his son.

Nimesh is the only child of his parents. When he was born, his parents didn’t believe such a miracle would happen to them because, they had earlier lost three girls. Nimesh was the light after deep darkness for the unfortunate parents.

In February 2023, Nimesh complained of severe abdominal pain. Within no time, his stomach was swelling, and his eyes were turning yellow.

“When his eyes started turning yellow, I didn’t know what to do. I started thinking of the worst possibilities while I was also telling myself that nothing bad could happen.” - Nimesh’s mother

Nimesh was taken to Nanavati Max hospital immediately, where the doctors conducted some tests and concluded that Nimesh’s liver had failed and that he urgently required a liver transplant or else he would die. After undergoing several tests, Nimesh’s father discovered that he was a perfect match to donate a portion of his liver to save his child's life. However, upon learning about the exorbitant estimated cost of liver transplant, the parents were devastated.

Later parents discussed about their poor economic situation, the doctors & transplant coordinators at Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital informed them about MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan initiative. With support from Anudaan, few other NGOs and the hospital's concession on transplant cost, Mast. Nimesh successfully underwent a liver transplant on January 16, 2024. MOHAN Foundation sanctioned Rs. 1.5 lakh for his liver transplant.
