Master Mohammed Hussain, Liver Transplant on April 11, 2023
On April 11, 2023, MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan- "Making Transplants Affordable" team received an email from Aster CMI hospital, Bengaluru requesting financial aid for Master Mohammed Hussain's liver transplant. The child was suffering from liver cirrhosis and needed an urgent transplantation.
Mohammed Hussain, age 10, is from Bengaluru, Karnataka. He belongs to a poor family with his father being the sole earner in the family. With the meager income, it was very hard for the family to pay the huge cost of the liver transplant, which was estimated around Rs. 15 lakhs.
When Hussain was born, the family was on cloud nine. They celebrated the birth of their second child with immense happiness and joy. However, fate had other plans for them. Hussain started falling sick, his stomach swell and he would cry in pain. "I never thought fate could be so cruel to anyone. Every day was a struggle for him"-shared the mother. His skin was getting pale, and his eyes were getting yellower day by day. He started to have difficulties even in moving and performing small tasks. The parents decided to take him up for a health checkup at a local hospital. After few tests and scans, Hussain was diagnosed with Jaundice. He was then taken to multiple doctors and tried different medicines but the Jaundice persisted. Hussain was in immense pain and his stomach kept swelling. Finally, the parents decided to take their son to a big multi-specialty hospital.
After the family discussed about their poor economic situation, the doctors at Aster CMI informed them about MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan. With the support from Anudaan, hospital's concession on the transplant cost and other NGOs, Master Hussain successfully underwent a liver transplant on 03-05-2023. Anudaan sanctioned Rs. 1.5 lakhs for his surgery.
Both mother and son are doing well. Hussain is very happy to receive a second life and is now excited for his future. The child is active, plays all indoor & outdoor games, goes to mosque for reading Namaaz, unlike earlier when he was bullied, ragged and made fun of for his bloated belly. His ambition is to become a police officer in future.
"Lots of thanks to MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan team for saving our son's life with their financial support. We are impressed by their lifesaving work.".' -Mr. Mohammed Ghouse and Mrs. Shaheena, Parents.
