On September 27, 2023, MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan - 'Making Transplants Affordable' team received an email from Nanavati Max Super Specialty hospital, Mumbai requesting financial aid for Mast. Om Ramadas Dhotre's liver transplant, suffering with Hepatoblastoma Pretext IV and needed an urgent liver transplant.
Mast. Om Ramadas Dhotre, age 7 years, hails from Hingoli district Marathwada, Maharashtra. He belongs to a very poor family. His father works as a daily wage labourer and with the meagre salary, they were somehow managing their family expenses, however Dhotre's multiple hospital visits drained their resources completely. It was very tough for them to pay Rs. 16 lakhs for Dhotre's liver transplant.
Dhotre's parents were very happy after the birth of their son. However, after 6 months of his birth, the child began to fall sick. Gradually his eyes began turning yellow. Initially Dhotre, was diagnosed with Jaundice and underwent the necessary treatment. His health kept on deteriorating. A series of tests later at Tata Hospital parents were given a diagnosis of Hepatoblastoma Pretext IV, a form of cancer in the tissues of the liver. Initially he underwent few cycles of chemotherapy but eventually doctors recommended an urgent liver transplant as a life saving option. Dhotre was then referred to Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital, Mumbai for liver transplantation. After a few tests mother was found to be a perfect match.
The family then discussed about their economic challenges with the doctors at Nanavati Max Super Specialty hospital. The parents were informed about MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan, with support from Anudaan and few other NGOs, Mast. Om Ramadas Dhotre successfully underwent a liver transplant on December 12, 2023. MOHAN Foundation sanctioned Rs. 3,00,000 for his liver transplant.
"Sincere thanks to MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan team for saving our son's life with their financial support.".' - Mr. Ramadas, Father.
