Mast. Karthik M, Liver Transplant on May 07, 2024

The 'Anudaan- Making Transplants Affordable' team of the MOHAN Foundation got an email on March 30, 2024, from Aster CMI Hospital in Bengaluru, requesting financial assistance for Mast. Karthik M, who is from Kalaburagi, Karnataka. He needed a liver transplant after being diagnosed with decompensated chronic liver disease, portal hypertension, and left lower limb cellulitis.

16-year-old Karthik comes from a middle-class household: his mother is an accountant and his father a cab driver making it was extremely difficult for his parents to afford the liver transplant costing Rs. 15 lakh.

In 2020 Karthik began experiencing repeated bouts of illness. After being brought to the Sapthagiri hospital, a series of tests indicated he had problems connected to his liver. He was then referred to the Aster CMI hospital in Bengaluru, where doctors performed a liver biopsy and made the startling announcement that he had chronic liver disease and required a liver transpalnt. Karthik's father turned out to be the ideal candidate for donation.

The physicians at Aster CMI Hospital, who were having difficulty raising the necessary funds, informed them about the MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan program. On May 07, 2024, Karthik got a successful liver transplant thanks to the significant support of Anudaan and a few other philanthropic organizations. Anudaan approved a transplant cost of Rs. 2 lakhs.

“Our entire world collapsed in front of us when we learned that Karthik had liver failure; at that point, medical professionals at Aster CMI in Bengaluru told us about your organisation. We are really appreciative that you returned our Karthik to us in good health.”- Mr. Madivalappa Karthik’s father
