Baby Shradha Mailar Kotabagi, Liver Transplant on June 16, 2024
On May 27, 2024, MOHAN Foundation's 'Anudaan - Making Transplants Affordable' team received an email from Aster CMI Hospital, Bengaluru requesting financial aid for Baby Shradha Mailar Kotabagi, hailing from Dharwad, Karnataka. She was diagnosed with Acute on Chronic Liver Failure due to Wilson’s disease and required an immediate liver transplant.
Shradha, aged 8 years, comes from a lower-middle-class household in Dharwad, Karnataka. Her father, a government school teacher, is the family's primary breadwinner, it was impossible for her father to endure the massive expense of Rs. 15 lakhs for Shradha's liver transplant.
Shradha was a healthy and happy kid until April 2024, when her eyes began to turn pale yellow. Her parents became anxious and sought help of a local physician, who diagnosed her with jaundice. Despite the treatment her health did not show any improvement. She was rushed to Aster CMI Hospital, Bengaluru, for further care and a liver biopsy indicated that she has chronic liver illness due to Wilson’s disease and needed an urgent liver transplant. Shradha's mother was found to be an ideal donor to donate a portion of liver to her daughter.
Family then, discussed about their financial constraints with the physician at Aster, they were informed about MOHAN Foundation’s Anudaan initiative. With the support from MOHAN Foundation, few other NGOs and the hospital's concession on transplant cost, Shradha successfully underwent a Liver transplant on June 16, 2024. Anudaan sanctioned Rs 1.5 lakh towards her surgery.
“My daughter has fought valiantly through the disease. She is steadily recuperating and is excited to get back to her school. Thank to you to Anudaan for the support provided. May your Foundation continue to grow and keep helping underprivileged people like us.” – Mr. Mailar, Father.
