Baby Pawani Jain, Liver Transplant on July 06, 2024

On January 10, 2024, MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan - 'Making Transplants Affordable' team received an email from Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital, Mumbai, Maharashtra requesting financial aid for Baby Pawani Jain's liver transplant, who was suffering from Large VSD with Severe Pulmonic and infundibular Valve stenosis (Heart Disease) and Biliary Atresia with Failed Kasai Portoenterostomy (End stage liver disease).

Pawani Jain, five-month old, hails from Madhya Pradesh's Guna district. She belongs to a poor household. Her father owns a rental pan shop and earns Rs. 7,000 each month. With such a modest salary, it was extremely difficult to run a family; additionally, Baby Pawani's unexpected diagnosis and frequent hospital visits drained all their savings. It was extremely tough for the family to raise Rs. 16.5 lakhs for their child's life-saving transplant.

Baby Pawani began to exhibit health troubles shortly after birth. After a few tests, it was determined that Baby Pawani had a hole in her heart; to make things worse, she was also diagnosed with Biliary Atresia. Doctors recommended Kasai surgery as a temporary remedy but her condition continued to deteriorate, resulting in the failure of Pawani's Kasai surgery. She later experienced respiratory difficulties, prompting urgent heart surgery. Although, her heart operation was successful, she still needed a liver transplant to lead a healthy life.

Baby Pawani’s mother proved to be a perfect match for her daughter. The family then discussed about their economic challenges with the physicians at Nanavati Max Super Specialty Hospital. Parents were then, informed about MOHAN Foundation’s Anudaan initiative. With support from Anudaan and few other NGOs, Baby Pawani successfully underwent a liver transplant on July 06, 2024. MOHAN Foundation sanctioned Rs. 2,00,000 for her transplant.

“Kindly accept our heartfelt gratitude for the financial aid for Baby Pawani Jain. This financial aid enabled successful liver transplantation for a financially challenged family. We look forward for your continuous support for the future liver transplant patients.”- Transplant Coordinator, Nanavati Hospital.

“Pawani is recovering; at such a young age, our daughter has been through a lot. Foundations like yours have been very generous to us, I would like to donate fund to your organization in future, in order to help more innocent children, just as you saved our daughter. “- Mr. Vineet Jain, Father
