Baby Krisha Brahma, Liver Transplant on May 13, 2024
On April 26, 2024, MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan-'Making Transplants Affordable' team received an email from Max Super Specialty Hospital, New Delhi, requesting financial aid for liver transplant of Baby Krisha Brahma. She was suffering from chronic liver disease, requiring an urgent liver transplant.
Baby Krisha, aged 1 year, hails from Udalguri, Assam. She belongs to a middle-class family. Her father works as a lower primary teacher. But after the outbreak of the covid-19, their family income took a massive hit. Being the only provider for the family, Krisha's father was able to manage their finances in some way, but they were totally depleted by Krisha's multiple hospital visits. With the meagre income of the family, it was very tough for them to pay the huge cost i.e., Rs. 18.5 Lakh for Krisha's liver transplant.
Krisha's health complications started at birth, and after several hospital visits in Assam, her parents were eventually given a diagnosis of chronic liver illness.
Baby Krisha was brought to Max Super Specialty Hospital in Saket, New Delhi, for a second opinion. Here too, an immediate liver transplant was suggested as a potentially life-saving measure.
A few tests later, the mother was found to be a perfect match for her child. The family then discussed about their economic challenges with the doctors at Max Super Specialty hospital. The parents were informed about MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan. With support from Anudaan and few other NGOs, Baby Krisha successfully underwent a liver transplant on May 13, 2024. MOHAN Foundation sanctioned Rs. 2,00,000 for her liver transplant.
"During my daughter's health crisis, the MOHAN Foundation was a beacon of hope. The support we received helped us find strength during one of the most difficult times of our lives. I am incredibly grateful to your Foundation for connecting those in need with compassionate donors. It has truly made a profound difference in our journey."- Mr. Horesh Brahma, father
