Baby Divya Namdev Jadhav, Liver Transplant on April 06, 2023

On April 06, 2023, MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan- 'Making Transplants Affordable' team received an email from Sahayadri Super Specialty Hospital, Pune requesting financial aid for Baby Divya Namdev Jadhav's liver transplant, who was suffering from chronic liver disease called liver cirrhosis.

Baby Divya, age 8 months, hails from Aurad village, a town in Bidar district of Karnataka. She belongs to a poor family, consisting of five members. Her father is a driver in a local school. The family was going through a tough phase. With the meager income of the family, it was very tough for them to pay the huge cost of Divya's liver transplant, i.e. Rs. 15 Lakhs.

'For us, nothing is more valuable than the life of our beloved daughter. We gave everything away just to save her life.' said the devastated mother. Divya's suffering began in the month of September, 2022, when she was having constipation for more than 4- 5 days. She was crying due to stomach pain and fever. The parents immediately visited a local hospital, where Divya was treated for few days but to no avail. The parents were in shock to see their child in immense pain. She used to be an active and happy infant but all of a sudden, she was trapped in the worst nightmare. Divya was then taken to other hospital in Pune, where she was advised to undergo biopsy and other tests.

After biopsy, it was found that Divya was suffering from liver disease. She was referred to Sahayadri Super Specialty Hospital, Pune, where she underwent several tests. The doctors informed the parents that their child was suffering from chronic liver disease and was in need of an urgent liver transplant. The parents were shocked to hear the earth-shattering news.

After couple of tests, Divya's mother found out that she was a perfect match for her child and that she would be able to save her by donating a portion of her liver. But after hearing about the huge estimated cost of the liver transplant, the parents was in deep astonishment.

After the parents discussed about their poor economic situation, the doctors at Sahayadri Super Specialty Hospital, informed them about MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan. This information gave them a sign of relief. With support from Anudaan and few other NGOs, Divya successfully underwent a liver transplant on 23-05-2023. Anudaan sanctioned Rs. 2 lakhs for the transplant.

Both mother and daughter are recovering well. The parents are now very happy to see that Divya received a second chance to live. Her parents wish that she becomes a surgeon in future.

'Lots of gratitude to MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan team for saving my daughter's life with their financial support. It is good to learn about the good work that they are doing.' .' - Mr. Namdev Dharmaji Jadhav, Father.
