Baby Dhanshri Shashikant Patil, Liver Transplant on July 27, 2024

MOHAN Foundation's Anudaan - 'Making Transplants Affordable' team received an email from Nanavati MAX Super Specialty Hospital, Mumbai requesting financial aid for Baby Dhanshri, who was suffering from Decompensated with Chronic Liver Disease with HCC and needed an urgent liver transplant.

Baby Dhanshri Shashikant Patil, age 12 years hails from Nashik, Maharashtra. She belongs to a poor family. Her father is a famer and the sole breadwinner of the family consisting of five members, earning a modest wage that barely covers the family's daily needs. It was impossible for her father to bear the huge cost i.e., Rs. 16.5 Lakh for Dhanshri’s liver transplant.

Dhanshri was a healthy and happy girl until March 2024, when her eyes began to turn pale yellow. Her parents consulted a family physician and began ayurvedic treatment for her. Despite the treatment her health did not show any improvement. She was rushed to Apollo Hospital for further care, and a liver biopsy indicated that she has chronic liver illness.

She was then referred to Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai, where physicians determined that a liver transplant was the only viable option for the youngster to lead a healthy, pain-free life. Dhanshri's mother was found to be the perfect match to donate a portion of liver to her daughter.

“Fortunately, I was a suitable match to be a donor for her liver transplant. I of course did not think twice about donating part of my liver to my beloved daughter, but the cost of the procedure was far too high for us to bear”- Mrs. Sonali Patil, Mother

Family then, discussed about their financial constraints with the physician at Nanavati, they were informed about MOHAN Foundation’s Anudaan initiative. With the support from MOHAN Foundation, few other NGOs, Dhanshri successfully underwent a Liver transplant on July 27, 2024. Anudaan sanctioned Rs 1.5 lakh towards her surgery.

“We are amongst those who can’t afford to take a loan or get health insurance. We live off our daily earnings. MOHAN Foundation and other like-minded NGO’s turned out to be the lifesaver for our daughter. Our family will always be indebted to MOHAN Foundation”- Mr. Shashikant Patil, Father
