Mr. Pushpraj Siddharth Gaikwad

Where it Began

The Anudaan – “Making Transplants Affordable” team at MOHAN Foundation got an urgent email from Sahyadri hospital in Pune, Maharashtra, requesting financial assistance for Pushpraj Siddharth Gaikwad, a 30-year-old Pune resident, to undergo an emergency kidney transplant.

Pushpraj’s occupation is security guard; however, he was forced to resign from it because of health problems. The family found themselves in an extremely challenging situation when their main caregiver was given a life-threatening disease. To assist in providing for the family and paying for the medical care, his wife started a modest business manufacturing and selling masalas. Due to their low income, the family still found it extremely difficult to pay the astounding Rs. 8 lakhs in transplant-related expenses.

During the Corona period, Pushpraj experienced oedema and leg pain. He was not getting better, so he went to a neighbouring clinic. There, a series of tests revealed that he had high blood pressure. His creatine level was increased, the physicians there suggested that he start dialysis. He was then sent to Sahyadri Hospital in Pune for a second opinion, where a kidney biopsy was done and the alarming diagnosis of chronic renal failure was made. For seven months, he received dialysis. Then, a kidney transplant was recommended in an effort to prolong his life. Thankfully, Pushraj’s mother turned out to be a suitable donor. The biggest challenge for the family was, however, coming up with the huge amount required to pay for the transplant.

After discussing the family’s challenging financial situation, the doctors at Sahyadri Hospital informed them about MOHAN Foundation’s Anudaan. Their newly acquired understanding gave them hope. Pushpraj Gaikwad received a successful kidney transplant on May 16, 2024, because of the hospital’s contribution of the transplant’s expenses, the MOHAN Foundation, and a few other NGOs. The kidney transplant he received was approved at Rs. 1 lakh by Anudaan of the MOHAN Foundation.

“I had a successful transplant and am looking forward to living a long, happy, healthy life. I was given a fresh start on life, and the MOHAN Foundation’s Anudaan initiative and other like-minded groups made this possible. My family and I will always be grateful of your charity.” – Mr. Pushpraj Siddharth Gaikwad
