Growing up, Hiramot saw his mother struggle every day to raise him. Those years shaped a simple dream: to study well, find a good job after his education, and give her the comfortable life she had never had.
Mr. Hiramot Oinam is a 23-year-old from Porompat, Imphal East District, Manipur. He was a second-year college student, working towards a future in which he could support his mother and sister. However, his studies were disrupted in 2021 when he fell ill with a kidney condition, and he was unable to continue his education. He eventually needed a kidney transplant.
Hiramot comes from a financially struggling family. His father passed away several years ago, leaving his mother, Mrs. Niramala Oinam, as the sole earning member of the household. She prepares pickles and sells them to local vendors to support the family. Despite these challenges, she came forward to donate one of her kidneys to her son.
The estimated cost of the transplant at JNIMS, Imphal, Manipur, was ₹6 lakh, which was beyond the family’s financial capacity. Hiramot successfully underwent the kidney transplant on August 29, 2026.
The final hospital bill amounted to ₹4,72,850. Recognising the family’s circumstances, Anudaan – Making Transplants Affordable, an initiative of MOHAN Foundation, approved financial assistance of ₹1 lakh towards the transplant.
This support helped ease the family’s financial burden and made it possible for them to manage the cost of Hiramot’s transplant and treatment.
Expressing her gratitude, Hiramot’s mother, Mrs. Niramala Oinam, shared that the family is grateful to MOHAN Foundation for its support, and that it made a real difference to them.
