Miss Deepa Popat is a 12-year-old girl from Belagavi, Karnataka, who dreams of becoming a police officer. She loves singing and drawing and looks forward to building a bright future. However, her dreams were put on hold when she was diagnosed with liver failure and required an urgent liver transplant to save her life.
Deepa comes from a financially struggling family. Her father passed away a few years ago, leaving her mother as the sole earning member of the household. Her mother works as a farmer and also takes up odd jobs to support the family. Despite the financial challenges, she came forward to donate a part of her liver to save her daughter’s life.
The estimated cost of Deepa’s liver transplant at Aster CMI Hospital, Bengaluru, was ₹16 lakh, which was beyond the family’s financial capacity. Deepa successfully underwent the liver transplant on June 24, 2026.
The final hospital bill amounted to approximately ₹15.73 lakh. Recognising the family’s financial difficulties, Anudaan – Making Transplants Affordable, an initiative of MOHAN Foundation, approved financial assistance of ₹3 lakh towards the transplant.
The financial assistance provided through Anudaan helped ease the family’s financial burden and supported the family in managing the substantial cost of Deepa’s transplant and treatment.
Today, Deepa can look forward to returning to the things she loves and working towards her dream of becoming a police officer.
Expressing her gratitude, Deepa said:
“I want to thank Anudaan, MOHAN Foundation, who helped us in this critical time. It was a great help which saved my life.”
