Mast. Yashraj Suryawanshi is a 3-year-old child from Surat, Gujarat, who was diagnosed with end-stage liver disease. Doctors advised an urgent liver transplant as the only treatment that could save his life.
Yashraj lives with his parents and sister. His father works as an Operations Associate and is the only earning member of the family, with a monthly income of ₹35,000. The family had already spent all their savings on the treatment of Yashraj’s grandfather, who sadly passed away, and on the ongoing treatment of his grandmother after her knee replacement surgery. They also spend money on the regular treatment of Yashraj’s sister, who often falls sick and needs to be admitted to the hospital. With so many medical expenses, the family found it very difficult to arrange the money needed for Yashraj’s liver transplant.
The estimated cost of the liver transplant at Gleneagles Hospital, Mumbai, was ₹16.5 lakh, which was far beyond the family’s financial capacity. The hospital approached Anudaan – Making Transplants Affordable, an initiative of MOHAN Foundation, for financial assistance.
In a selfless act of love, Yashraj’s mother came forward to donate a part of her liver to save her son’s life. The Anudaan Committee approved financial support of ₹2.5 lakh towards the transplant. Yashraj successfully underwent the liver transplant on June 1, 2026, at Gleneagles Hospital, Mumbai.
The final hospital bill came to ₹17,28,639, which was higher than the estimated cost. The support from Anudaan helped reduce the family’s financial burden and allowed them to focus on Yashraj’s treatment and recovery.
Expressing his gratitude, Yashraj’s father said:
“As a father, it was heartbreaking to see my son suffer while I struggled to arrange money for his treatment. We had already used all our savings on other medical emergencies in the family, and we did not know how we would manage the transplant. My wife gave a part of her liver to save our son, and the support from MOHAN Foundation through Anudaan came at the right time and gave us hope. We sincerely thank MOHAN Foundation for helping our son get a second chance at life.”
