Mast. Usman Rehman Khan

Where it Began

On March 22, 2025, the Anudaan: Making Transplants Affordable team at MOHAN Foundation received a financial aid request from Gleneagles Hospital, Mumbai for Mast. Usman Rehman Khan, a 2-year-old boy from Aurangabad, Maharashtra. Usman had been diagnosed with Tyrosinemia Type I, a rare autosomal recessive genetic disorder.

Usman comes from a humble family of five. His father, Mr. Rehman Aziz Khan, is the sole breadwinner, working at a local car washing centre, earning just Rs. 8,000 per month – barely enough to meet the basic needs of the household, which also includes his elderly father.

In September 2024, Usman’s health began to deteriorate following a severe bout of pneumonia. Despite initial medical treatment, his condition continued to decline. He was referred to Gleneagles Hospital, where, after comprehensive testing, doctors confirmed that a liver transplant was his only chance at survival. Following compatibility testing, his father was identified as the matching donor – a selfless act that would save his son’s life.

However, the cost of the transplant was far beyond what the family could afford. In desperation, they reached out to various organizations, and their plea moved many – including MOHAN Foundation’s Anudaan initiative. Usman underwent a successful liver transplant on May 19, 2025. MOHAN Foundation sanctioned Rs. 2,00,000 to support Usman’s liver transplant.

“When our son Usman was advised a liver transplant, we were overwhelmed with fear-not only for his health, but also because we did not know how we would afford the surgery. MOHAN Foundation’s assistance brought us hope and made it possible for Usman to receive the treatment he desperately needed. Today, as he recovers and slowly returns to his normal life, we carry immense gratitude in our hearts. Thank you for giving our son a second chance at life.”- Mrs. Amreen Rehman Khan, Mother

“At a time when our family was facing immense emotional and financial distress, MOHAN Foundation extended a helping hand through its Anudaan initiative. We remain deeply grateful for their timely intervention and unwavering commitment to families like ours. It is because of your generosity that our son has been given a new lease on life.”- Mr. Rehman Aziz Khan, Father
