In a small farming family bound by love and tradition, little Shreejit was the youngest of three children, the joy of the household and the apple of everyone’s eye. Living in a close-knit joint family with his grandparents and extended relatives (paternal elder brother and family).
But life took an unexpected turn when Shreejit was just one year old. What began as a case of jaundice soon turned into a serious medical concern. Despite immediate care at a nearby hospital, his condition did not improve. With growing worry, his parents made the difficult decision to take him to Gleneagles Hospital, hoping for answers.
After thorough evaluation, doctors diagnosed Shreejit with Neonatal Sclerosing Cholangitis, a rare and severe liver condition associated with Infantile Cholestasis. The news was devastating. The only way to save his life was an urgent liver transplant. His paternal uncle came forward to donate his part of liver to save his beloved nephew’s life.
For a family sustained by modest farming income which consisted of eleven members, the estimated cost of Rs. 16.5 lakhs were overwhelming far beyond their means. The medical team at Gleneagles Hospital stepped forward, not just as caregivers but as advocates, helping initiate efforts to raise funds for Shreejit’s life-saving surgery. Their appeal reached many kind-hearted individuals who came forward to support the cause.
Among them was the MOHAN Foundation, whose Anudaan initiative extended crucial financial assistance of Rs. 2.5 lakhs, bringing hope to a family in despair. With the support of generous donors and well-wishers Shreejit underwent a life saving liver transplant on January 31, 2026. “There was a time when we felt like we were losing our little boy, and we had no way to save him. The cost of his transplant was beyond anything we could afford. But in our darkest moment, help came from MOHAN Foundation, and many kind-hearted people. Today, our son is alive, his smile is back, and so is our hope. We will remain forever grateful for this second chance at life.”- Mr. Sandip Mandulkar, father.
