Mast. Shlok Sagar Katkar, a bright 7-year-old boy from Kolhapur, Maharashtra, had been bravely battling multiple life-threatening health conditions from a young age. Diagnosed with Progressive Familial Intrahepatic Cholestasis Type III (PFIC-III), he also suffered from decompensated liver cirrhosis, growth failure, persistent jaundice, and coagulopathy.
Shlok’s father, a daily wage labourer, struggled to provide for the family while also managing his son’s medical needs. Despite financial constraints, the family’s determination to save Shlok never wavered. As Shlok’s condition worsened, doctors confirmed that a liver transplant was the only life-saving option. Following compatibility testing, his father was identified as the matching donor – a selfless act that would save his son’s life.
However, the cost of the transplant was far beyond what the family could afford. In desperation, they reached out to various organizations, and their plea moved many – including MOHAN Foundation’s Anudaan initiative. Shlok underwent a successful liver transplant on March 31, 2025. MOHAN Foundation sanctioned Rs. 2,00,000 to support Shlok’s liver transplant. Today, Shlok is learning to laugh again, his eyes brighter, his steps stronger.
“When we first heard the word ‘transplant,’ our world collapsed. We didn’t know how we would manage the cost, the fear, or the risk. But watching our son grow weaker every day left us with no other choice other than transplant. As parents, we would give anything for our child’s life, even a part of our own. Today, when we see Shlok smile again, we know every struggle, every tear, and every sleepless night was worth it. This is not just his second chance—it is ours too, to watch him grow, dream, and live. We are forever indebted to MOHAN Foundation for making this possible. “- Mr. Sagar Katkar, Father
