In a farming household in Kheda, Gujarat, a father has spent years working his own land to provide for his family. He is the sole earning member, supporting his wife, a homemaker, and their three children. Over time, he had already sold a portion of his land to cover the marriage expenses of his two daughters. He would soon need to make an even greater sacrifice for his son.
His son, 12-year-old Mast. Nikulbhai Chauhan, once spent his days like any boy his age — studying and playing. That childhood was interrupted when Nikulbhai was diagnosed with kidney failure, and doctors advised an urgent kidney transplant.
To meet the medical expenses this time, Nikulbhai’s father sold yet another portion of his land. And when it came to finding a donor, he once again stepped forward himself, choosing to donate his own kidney to save his son.
The transplant took place at Muljibhai Patel Urological Hospital (MPUH), Nadiad, Gujarat, on August 8, 2026. The hospital bill amounted to approximately ₹7 lakh, a considerable sum for a family that had already stretched its resources thin.
Recognising the family’s financial difficulties, Anudaan – Making Transplants Affordable, an initiative of MOHAN Foundation, approved financial assistance of ₹1 lakh towards the transplant. However, the final shortfall in the bill amounted to only INR 45,332/-, which was the amount actually paid by Anudaan.
Nikulbhai is now on the road to recovery, with his father’s gift giving him the chance to return to the life and dreams he had put on hold. [PLACEHOLDER: add specific outcome/current status details].
