The “Anudaan- Making Transplants Affordable” team of the MOHAN Foundation got an email on January 07, 2025, from Aster CMI Hospital, Bengaluru, Karnataka, requesting financial assistance for Mast. Adideb Payal. He needed a liver transplant after being diagnosed with chronic liver disease with portal hypertension.
Adideb, aged 5.5 months, hails from West Bengal. He belongs to an extremely impoverished household. His father used to work as a daily wage labourer in a jute mill but, due to the son’s deteriorated health he was forced to quit his job and move to Bengaluru for treatment.
Adideb was diagnosed with jaundice when he was just two days old, marking the beginning of his disease. He was receiving treatment for the same and was showing improvement but soon his condition deteriorated dramatically. His anxious parents were stuck in a never-ending cycle of hospital visits when a paediatric specialist in West Bengal detected liver related condition and advised family to seek treatment at a specialised hospital.
He was subsequently referred to Aster CMI Hospital in Bengaluru for advanced treatment, where physicians revealed that he needed an immediate liver transplant to live a healthy life. Following a few tests, mother was found to be a matching donor for her child.
“We live hand-to-mouth, with no savings to fall back on. Despite the overwhelming costs and limited resources, we decided to take him there, hoping we could save him.”- Mr. Amit Payal, Father
Physicians at Aster CMI Hospital assisted the family in raising finances for the child, with support from Anudaan and a few other NGOs, Adideb had a successful liver transplant on March 12, 2025. MOHAN Foundation sanctioned Rs. 2,00,000 for his liver transplant.
“I am happy to share that my son, Adideb, has successfully undergone his liver transplant. He is now out of danger, which is a great relief for us. This would not have been possible without the support and generosity of your Foundation. We are forever indebted to you for your kindness and help.”- Mr. Amit Payal, Father
