Baby Rajshree Agarwal

Where it Began

On February 13, 2025, the ‘Anudaan: Making Transplants Affordable’ team received a financial aid request from Gleneagles Hospital, Mumbai, on behalf of Baby Rajshree Agarwal, a 2-year-old from Hooghly, West Bengal. She was diagnosed with recurrent hepatoblastoma, a rare and aggressive liver cancer typically seen in infants and young children.

Rajshree’s father had to quit his job as a plywood salesman to move with her to Mumbai for treatment. The financial burden was overwhelming for this lower-middle-class family.

Rajshree’s symptoms began when she was just 1 year old, with pale eyes, persistent fever, weight loss, and abdominal swelling. Initial tests in Kolkata confirmed hepatoblastoma. She was referred to Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, where she underwent chemotherapy but did not show improvement. Doctors advised an urgent liver transplant, leading to her shift to Gleneagles Hospital. Fortunately, her grandmother’s sister was identified as a compatible donor.

With support from the physicians at Gleneagles Hospital, Anudaan, and several NGOs, funds were raised for the transplant. The MOHAN Foundation contributed INR 2,50,000 towards the cost. Rajshree successfully underwent a liver transplant on April 15, 2025.

“When we came to Mumbai, we were scared, helpless, and had no idea how we would save our daughter. Watching her suffer and being told she needed an urgent liver transplant shattered us. But then MOHAN Foundation came forward and supported us in a way we’ll never forget. Because of your help, our Rajshree is alive and getting better every day. No words can express how thankful we are.”- Ms. Kajal, Mother

“Today, she is on the road to recovery – and has a chance at the childhood she deserves.”- Mr. Bikash, Father
