Baby Purvi Singh

Where it Began

MOHAN Foundation’s Anudaan – ‘Making Transplants Affordable’ team received an email from Nanavati MAX Super Specialty Hospital, Mumbai requesting financial aid for Baby Purvi’s liver transplant, suffering with Decompensated Chronic Liver Disease Secondary to Biliary Atresia and requiring an urgent liver transplant.

Baby Purvi Vishal Singh, age 02 years hails from Surat, Gujarat. She belongs to a poor family. Her father is a mechanic in a garage in Surat. The family was surviving on their savings and with the meagre income, it was impossible for her father to bear the huge cost i.e., Rs. 16.5 Lakh for Purvi’s liver transplant.

Baby Purvi’s parents were overjoyed when their first child was born, but their joy was short-lived. Within a month of her birth, Purvi was diagnosed with jaundice. Despite medication, her condition continued to deteriorate. She underwent a liver biopsy, which revealed she had a serious liver disease and was suggested for Kasai Porto-enterostomy surgery. After two months of surgery, she became ill again, with recurring fever and oral bleeding, prompting her parents to admit her back to the hospital.

Baby Purvi was subsequently referred to Nanavati Hospital for a liver transplant. After a few tests, Purvi’s mother was found to be a perfect match for her daughter. However, the estimated cost of a liver transplant (Rs. 16.5 lakh) was daunting and beyond their means.

After the family discussed about their poor economic situation, the doctors at Nanavati MAX Super Specialty Hospital, Mumbai informed them about MOHAN Foundation’s Anudaan. This information gave them renewed hope. With support from Anudaan and few other NGOs, Baby Purvi successfully underwent a liver transplant on August 03, 2024. MOHAN Foundation sanctioned Rs. 2 Lakh for her liver transplant.

” We are really grateful to your organization, as Purvi can now lead a pain-free life ahead. We want her to become a doctor so she can save others’ lives. ” Mr. Vishal Singh, Father
