Baby Fathima was born into a family that had already endured unimaginable heartbreak. Their eldest daughter brought them joy, but that joy was tragically cut short when she passed away from a liver ailment at just 18 months. Years later, the family was blessed again with Fathima but their happiness was once more shadowed when she too was diagnosed with a serious liver condition. Determined to save their daughter, the family moved her to Aster CMI Hospital, Bengaluru for advanced treatment, leaving behind their livelihood a small fish aquarium business run by Fathima’s father. After thorough tests, Fathima was diagnosed with CALFAN Syndrome, and doctors advised a liver transplant as her best chance of survival. Her father was identified as a suitable donor, yet the Rs. 15 lakh transplant cost was far beyond their means. With the family’s business closed, they relied solely on the generosity of Fathima’s paternal uncle.
In the midst of despair, hope arrived. The dedicated team at Aster CMI Hospital helped raise funds, and their appeal touched many hearts. MOHAN Foundation’s Anudaan initiative extended crucial support, contributing Rs. 2.5 lakhs towards the transplant. On September 15, 2025, Baby Fathima Hannah Akhtar underwent a successful liver transplant. Through the compassion of strangers, Fathima’s family was given a lifeline and a chance to see their little girl live.
“After losing our eldest daughter, we feared the worst for Fathima. Thanks to the generosity and support we received, she got a second chance at life. We are forever grateful to the MOHAN Foundation and everyone who helped our family in this dark time.”- Ms. Shainaz, mother.
