Miss Navyashree

Where it Began

For a family in Kalaburagi district, Karnataka, life changed the day they learned their 12-year-old daughter, Navyashree, their only child, had Wilson’s Disease. The condition had turned serious — it caused liver failure and an infection called sepsis. Doctors said there was only one way to save her: a liver transplant.

This news was very hard for the family to hear. Navyashree’s father works as an auto driver and is the only earning member of the family, while her mother takes care of the home. They had never imagined facing an illness this big or a cost this high. But when the time came to find a donor, her father did not hesitate. He decided to give part of his own liver to save his daughter.

The transplant took place at Aster CMI Hospital, Bengaluru. Doctors expected the cost to be around ₹16 lakh. On June 29, 2026, the surgery was successfully done, giving Navyashree a fresh chance at life.

In the end, the total hospital bill came to ₹13,53,140 — an amount the family could never have managed on their own. Anudaan – Making Transplants Affordable, an initiative of MOHAN Foundation, stepped in and provided financial help of ₹3 lakh at this difficult time.

Today, Navyashree is recovering well and slowly returning to the simple joys of childhood she once had to pause. She has also continued her studies from home.

Reflecting on this experience, Navyashree’s mother shared:

“We were struggling a lot to arrange the funds and had almost lost hope. Then Aster Hospital introduced us to two or three organizations, and MOHAN Foundation was one of them. We are truly thankful for their support and will remember this kindness for the rest of our lives.”
