In Sullia, a small town in Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka, 11-year-old Risha C. T. once spent her days like any other child. That ordinary childhood was interrupted when doctors diagnosed her with liver failure, a condition that left her needing an urgent liver transplant just to survive.
Risha’s mother raises her alone, earning a living through daily wage work. She is the family’s only breadwinner, and even everyday expenses stretch her income thin. Yet when her daughter needed a liver, she did not hesitate — she stepped forward to become the living donor herself.
Doctors at Aster CMI Hospital, Bengaluru, estimated the transplant would cost around ₹16 lakh — a sum far beyond what the family could ever arrange on their own. Despite this, the surgery went ahead on June 17, 2026, and Risha received the transplant she urgently needed.
By the time treatment concluded, the hospital bill had reached ₹16,22,042. Anudaan – Making Transplants Affordable, an initiative of MOHAN Foundation, stepped in with financial assistance of ₹3 lakh once it learned of the family’s circumstances.
Risha is now on her way back to good health, with the chance to return to the things she once loved and continue chasing her dreams.
Reflecting on the support her family received, Risha’s mother shared:
