Master Addwikh Tejj

Where it Began

On December 13, 2021, Anudaan- Making Transplants Affordable’ team received an email from Manipal Hospitals, Bengaluru requesting financial aid for Master Addwikh Tejj, who was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis and decompensation. He was in need of an urgent liver transplant.

Master Addwikh Tejj, age 5.8 years hailing from North, Bengaluru, belongs to a poor family. His father works as a civil work labor. Due to poor economic condition, the family could not afford the huge cost of their son’s liver transplant.

In August, 2021, Addwikh started experience drastic changes in his health. He frequently started to fall sick. Abdominal swelling, fever and paleness were the major issues that he was facing. His parents were frightened to see their son in such a terrible state.

They immediately rushed to a local child specialist, where Addwikh underwent several health checkups and blood test. ‘What was happening to our son all of a sudden? He always seemed to be normal and healthy.’ – father said with a baffled voice.

Addwikh was diagnosed with jaundice. The parents were informed that his liver was getting infected and with proper medication, he would recover well but unfortunately his health was not improving. He was continuously falling sick, having fever and stomach pain. He was then admitted to another local hospital from where he received treatment for 4 weeks.

Since Addwikh’s health was getting critical day by day, he was referred to Manipal Hospitals, Bengaluru. After few tests and liver biopsy, it was announced by the doctors that the child was suffering from liver cirrhosis and needed an urgent transplant so that he could survive. The parents were shocked to get this information. They could have never imagined that their son would be diagnosed with a chronic disease.

Addwikh’s mother was found to be the perfect match to donate a portion of liver to her son but collecting huge amount, i.e, Rs. 15 lakh for the transplant was a big challenge for them. They were then informed about MOHAN Foundation’s Anudaan for financial support. The hospital also assured that they would give concession on the transplant cost. The parents were excited and overwhelmed by the positive response and support from the doctors at Manipal Hospitals. A few other NGOs also contributed funds towards Addwikh’s transplant.

MOHAN Foundation sanctioned Rs. 1.5 Lakh for Addwikh’s liver transplant. He successfully underwent liver transplant on December 24, 2021. He has been doing well since the transplant and is recovering fine.

Addwikh has been a jovial and fun loving child. Since childhood, he is fond of cars and bikes and that’s why he wishes to be adventurous and wants to be a biker so that he could travel the world and gather new experiences.

‘I will be grateful to MOHAN Foundation for lifelong as they have saved my son’s life with their generous support.’ – V. Lavanya, Mother.
