Baby Iqra Haidar Khatoon

Where it Began

Baby Iqra Haidar Khatoon, the firstborn child of her parents, brought immense joy to their lives. However, their happiness was short-lived. When Iqra was just six days old, she developed jaundice. Her worried parents left no stone unturned, visiting multiple hospitals in search of answers. Despite receiving medication, her condition continued to worsen. She was eventually referred to Gleneagles Hospital, Mumbai, Maharashtra, where further tests confirmed that she was suffering from Biliary Atresia with missed Kasai. Doctors advised an urgent liver transplant as the only life-saving treatment. After compatibility testing, her father was identified as the matching donor a selfless act of love that would save his daughter’s life.

However, the cost of the transplant was far beyond what the family could afford.

“We are a poor family. Her father works as a tailor, sewing clothes every day for a minimum wage. Our lives are a constant struggle, if we have a meal in the morning, we already worry about where the next one will come from. How can we possibly afford the cost of a life-saving transplant?” — Ms. Asmin Khatoon, Mother

Amidst their despair, hope arrived through kindness and compassion. The dedicated team at Gleneagles Hospital helped raise funds for the transplant, and their appeal touched many hearts. MOHAN Foundation’s Anudaan initiative also extended its support, sanctioning Rs. 2 lakhs towards the transplant cost.

On September 9, 2025, Baby Iqra underwent a successful liver transplant, giving her a precious second chance at life. Now, at one year old, she is steadily recovering and bringing renewed joy to her family.

“We had nothing but faith and that faith was rewarded through the kindness of strangers. Our daughter is alive today because of everyone who stood by us. Today, seeing her smile feels like a miracle.”- Mr. Haidar Shah, Father
